Description
Firefly return in April for a week littered with two devastating parties showcasing the depth and variety of their hedonistic sound. Whilst the first weekend in May sees a visit from Radio 1 making for arguably the biggest night of 2008 for them so far, it’s at the Garvey ballroom, the scene of their most infamous crimes, where they throw up another classic offering. Featuring a star studded guest that remains shrouded in secrecy at the minute, there’s a live show from one of modern dance music most hotly tipped stars, Spanish starlet Alex Under.
Alex Under is one of the new breed of techno producers. Igniting melody around dark beats, his hallucinogenic soundscapes blend a stark yet endearingly beautiful picture of modern urban living, adding a visceral glint to the drudges of everyday life. The Madrid native has seen his work light up imprints like Trapez and Ritchie Hawtin’s Plus8, not to mention his own CMYK label, with DJs like Luciano, Derrick May, Ricarado Vilalobos and Dennis Ferrer all certified fans. His live shows translate this energy and beauty effortlessly, crafting panoramic beats and wide ranging sonics, constantly allayed to a devastating dancefloor dexterity which never falls short of its purpose in making people move. Art may be firmly at the forefront, but never for one second is the primary purpose of making clubbers lose themselves in the abandon of the moment lost.
Alex is supported by one of the hottest female DJs around, Scarlett Etienne. With diversity at the heart of Scarlett's sound, her style can be described as electro- progressive with a funky and melodic edge. Scarlett has acquired a unique, cultured appreciation and understanding of dance music and continues to make her impact on the underground house scene on a global level. If she is not working hard on the road, she is working diligently at home in her studio, continuing her quest to find expression through innovative new sounds.
Support comes from the usual selection of Firefly decksmiths, with Thrash Jelly, Beat Repeaters and Nick Wintle all contributing their rapid fire beats and scatter shot grooves.
This is set to be another Firefly classic.
