Bank Holiday weekends invariably mean something a little extra than the norm, and that’s exactly what Wax:On and Metropolis deliver as August veers to an end. The Victoria Works Warehouse, Wax:On’s latest venue of choice for their erratic excursions through each and every facet of dance music, has already become something of an institution in Leeds. Dirty Disco, Tribal Sessions and Monza are already some of the brands who’ve encased their rambunctious parties within the Warehouse, a gloriously unique space which has already housed corporate conferences, film studios and art exhibitions alongside its smattering of clubbing events.

And now Wax:On and Metropolis’ joint machinations bring their own imprints into effect. As ever they’ll be bending the restrictions upon music, combining the crystalline precision and hedonistic allure of techno and electro with the skanking intensity of dubstep and drum n bass. Future sonics warped into a frenzy for both clubs’ fervent following, this sound clash represents the epitome of what each party prides itself upon.

Headlining for Wax:On is none other than Scottish electro lynchpin Mylo. Since conquering the rave globe back in 2004, Mylo hurled himself into a state of semi hibernation after a gruelling touring schedule for his stunningly successful ‘Destroy Rock n Roll’ LP. It was all in aid of his new opus, due for release in the autumn, which looks set once more to ignite the clubbing glitterati with its shiny hooks and glorious funk injedctions. A rare DJ set promises to spotlight much in the way of new material from the breastfed man.

Add to that a DJ set from Hot Chip. The boy wonders of British pop, they’ve managed to weld the great values of eccentricity we prise so highly to dance music, creating genius club music with an infectious energy that has soaked up chart appearances. Their DJing sets reflect both aspects, bringing in magnificent moments of pop ingenuity alongside storming club tracks.

Then there are the talismanic Boys Noize, whose recent Bugged Out! Compilation demonstrated his ability in working through the motions, building his sets and layering them intricately as an aural tapestry before blistering through with the sickness. Along side deck wrecking antics from the Scratch Perverts and residents People Get Real, WaxOn’s half of this pulsating bank holiday is mouth watering.

Then comes the rowdiness from Metropolis. Tru Playaz and Ganja Kru mainstay DJ Hype is beyond mere legend, he’s a pioneer. One of the original lynchpins of the drum n bass scene, he’s still inflicting damage on the regular, bringing his indomitable vision of the music to each and every club that represents the sound. Dubstep boy wonder Skream is also in the house, his theatrics one of the key reasons Dubstep has sprung from the suburbs of Croydon to the most tantalisingly exciting form of dance music witnessed this century. And then there’s High Contrast, whose lucid offerings create a pure distillation of the music that demonstrates the tremendous versatility of drum n bass.
